The Right to Choose: No Longer Accepted

If you haven't watched the news, I'm sure you haven't heard that House Republicans have passed a bill that bans transgenders from entering girls' sports in schools. I'm also sure you guys haven't heard how these Republicans are viewing the current situation either. They claim that exposing young girls to biological male genitalia, it's exposing them to disgusting images. My question is, if these biological males have chosen to become transgender, wouldn't that mean that they have learned to respect that gender they feel more comfortable with? If a male feels more comfortable being a female, shouldn't we understand why before we make our own judgment calls? Banning transgenders from entering a school sport is the same as keeping a woman out of a job because she is a woman. It's discrimination no matter how you set it.

For a country that talks about being a powerhouse in the world, it has regressed in its so-called "development" to the point where we are essentially back in the 1800s when the only people who had any power in the government are men. And ironically enough, if you take a look at the issues that exist in today's era, the only group of people who have not been affected are white men. Why? Because it is white men who created this society that we live in. They are the only ones who have any sort of real power in shaping our government, even today. Then come white women. Then come men and women of minorities. That is reality, and that is a fact.

The reality of this judgment made by the House Republicans, is essentially a stamp, that we no longer have the right to choose how we feel, how to fit in, or anything that does not match what our society deems to be "normal." Whether it's revoking the Roe V Wade decision, or banning transgenders from sports, the matter of the fact is that its discrimination. We expect our government to end it because they are the ones who make the rules. But the reality is, the only real way to end discrimination, is to start at home.

If we want to any minority the rights they deserve, we need to be willing to accept them in our lives first. Accept that they are a part of your life, instead of pushing them away. Then, accept whatever decisions they make, irrespective of whether that decision affects you or they just want you part of the decision. Denying the rights of minorities, and denying their rights to choose what they do, is only going to continue to have us move backward in our lives rather than moving forward.
